Conscious Grandmothering
Shining the Light of Awareness on What It Means for You
You automatically become a grandmother when your child becomes a parent, but your intention plays a significant role in the kind of grandmother you grow to be. Whether you are geographically near to or far from your grandchildren, whether you are in close relationship with your grandchildren’s parents or not, whether becoming a grandmother has brought you unbridled delight or heartbreaking disappointment, this lively, interactive personalized webinar workshop series will guide you on your own journey toward more Conscious Grandmothering.
Join Yeshi Neumann, CNM, MPH, a passionate and active grandmother, a midwife who has been working with families for 38 years, and a highly skilled facilitator in this affirming and inspiring program. You will have the opportunity to share your joys, work on your challenges, and make connections with other grandmothers who have similar and different concerns. You will also gain practical skills, such as how to maintain meaningful relationships despite distances and how to resolve conflicts which involve cultural and value differences with children. These workshops will utilize poetry, storytelling, music and movement as well as interesting homework assignments to keep you involved between your weekly sessions.
Session 1: Introduction to Conscious Grandmothering
Explore what it means to be a conscious grandmother. What is your intention in taking this seminar? What is your most important concern as a grandmother? What would you like to take away from this seminar? Review your own experience of being grandmothered. What did you learn from the presence or absence of your grandmothers? What do you choose to bring forth from your own experience and what would you like to leave behind? How does your own cultural tradition influence your grandmothering?
Session 2: A History of Grandmothering
Learn about the history, anthropology and sociology relevant for you as a conscious grandmother. How can we grow from finding out about the role of the grandmother in earlier times and in diverse, contemporary cultures?
Session 3: Closing the Gap
Focus on practical wisdom for yourself as conscious grandmother. Become aware of ways to communicate more effectively with your adult children and children-in-law about your role as grandmother. Explore how to talk and listen to your grandchildren and how to be with them in ways that are both educational and fun. Look at closing the gap between how you want your relationship with your family to be and how it is now.
Session 4: Grandmotherly Wisdom and Contribution
Explore your contribution as a grandmother in your larger community. Who else besides your own grandchildren have you grandmothered? What have been your successes and challenges in spreading your influence in your chosen communities? Explore effective strategies for resolving conflict, building cross-cultural and intergenerational alliances and empowering yourself as a leader in your community.
Session 5: Ageless Beauty and Power
Become more conscious of how to take better care of yourself as a conscious grandmother. Explore the healing potential of menopause, the unique power of women in the second half of life, and ways to enjoy your ageless beauty and the beauty of your aging. Learn about new research and strategies for living a long, healthy life.
Session 6: Next Steps
What have you learned about yourself as a conscious grandmother? What are you doing differently in your role as a grandmother? What are the next steps for you on your Conscious Grandmothering path? Practice expressing your own wisdom concisely and eloquently. If there is interest, at the end of this session we will create a ceremony to mark our sacred rite of passage to grandmotherhood.
Conscious Woman is delighted to present the first of many programs for women in the second half of life. We welcome our new participants and look forward to growing with you!
Each session will be 90 minutes in length.

Conscious Grandmothering has arrived in perfect timing for me. I’ve been experiencing numberous and wonderous challenges since before the creation and birth of my miraculous grandaughter. God willing, I aspire to take on this course victoriously more enlightened than before.
