Knowing what the midwife or pediatrician is looking for in the examination of the newborn will enhance your ability to assist with the care of the baby after the immediate postpartum period. In this program, you will learn to distinguish between normal parental concerns (e.g., Is it normal for the baby to turn bright red?”) and signs that the baby should be seen in a hospital emergency ward (e.g., “The baby isn’t feeding and seems lethargic.”).
